COBRA initial notice

A COBRA Initial Notice is a communication issued within the first 90 days of an employee becoming covered under an employer's health plan. These notices are important for employees since they outline how COBRA coverage will be available to them and their dependents should the need ever arise! The notice explains:

  • The right to continue group health coverage under COBRA
  • How COBRA coverage works
  • What might qualify someone for COBRA
  • Who to contact for more information

The notices are also important for employers, as they're a requirement per federal regulations. Kept sends these notices out for groups they partner with, and we also use it as an opportunity to request electronic consent from employees.

When you receive an Initial Notice, know it's not spam, just a friendly reminder about your COBRA rights and a request for electronic consent!
